CRIT CLUB is a creative support group that emerged from Pause or Pay - a UK-wide cross-university action group led by students that formed in April 2020 in response to the disruption of studio-based learning by the pandemic. As part of the Alternative Platform working group, we wanted to create the spaces that had been lost from closed studios and a restricted access to our education.
The space is welcome to anyone! Whether you are a practicing artist, university drop-out, worker within another sector, or would just like to hear about some wonderful art.
CRIT CLUB has been facilitated online from March 2021, allowing us to reach new audiences and meet people outside of our creative bubbles. Since December 2021 we have also begun doing in-person crits and workshops based London.
I was invited to speak about CRIT CLUB with Pause or Pay on a podcast, which you can listen to here. Ellis Tree also thoughtfully wrote about my work in her dissertation on self-organised alternatives to art school.
